Registered Nurse - Correctional Facility

  • $36.70 Hourly – Permanent or Part-time
  • Outskirts of Geelong
  • Solid Multidisciplinary Team

We are looking for an experienced Division 1 Registered Nurse to work in a correctional facility. The clinical unit forms part of a larger organisation providing nursing services within correctional facilities throughout Melbourne.

You will be working within a small multidisciplinary team of highly skilled healthcare professionals delivering quality primary health care and monitoring a comprehensive range of health needs.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing primary health care services to prisoners in a correctional facility and facilitating secondary and tertiary referrals with external providers.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse Division One looking for permanent or a permanent part-time role to gain experience in a correctional setting. Both roles will be on a rotating roster including weekends.

The role is equivalent to RN Grade 3 so excellent salary applies. A background in acute or emergency nursing would be ideal. Exposure to mental health/forensic nursing is desirable but not essential. Excellent orientation and support provided.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reception screening of prisoner health requirements
  • Comprehensive physical and psychological assessments
  • Case Management planning
  • Emergency Care
  • Infection Control
  • Health education to prisoners
  • Pathology collection


Key criteria include:

  • Proficient and timely documentation and reporting skills
  • Division 1 Nursing Registration
  • Ability to deal with a comprehensive range of health requirements
  • Ability to work independently whilst working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent patient assessment skills
  • Willing to undergo Police Check and Working with Children Check clearance
